Octopus Wet Specimen Workshop

The Octopus Wet Specimen Workshop will be available both Friday and Saturday of Metal Massacre, with workshop hours from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM each day.

This hands-on experience invites participants to create unique, oddities-inspired art using real wet specimen materials. Guests can work with a limited number of full octopus specimens or choose from a variety of octopus tentacles to design custom creations. A selection of jars, vials, substrates, and fillable colored ink pens will also be available to build personalized pieces. Attendees are welcome to bring their own additions such as crystals, shells, rocks, or beach glass to incorporate into their work.

All supplies and PPE (including gloves, masks, goggles, and aprons) are provided. Specimens are pre-preserved and safely prepared ahead of time for workshop use. The workshop utilizes 70% isopropyl alcohol and glass materials, and is recommended for ages 5 and up.

Workshop sessions are $10 per person for a one-hour time slot. Reservations are strongly encouraged to ensure availability, though walk-ins may be accepted if space allows.

Additional offerings include:

  • Full octopus with jar and substrate: $50

  • Octopus tentacle ink pens: $15

  • Octopus tentacle vials: $5+ (based on size)

Hula Hoop

Hula Hoop Contests

Get ready for a fun, family-friendly activity happening throughout Metal Massacre XV: The Ides of Massacre! The hula hoop contests will be located at the Fundraising Tent near the entrance, offering a lighthearted break from the festival energy for both kids and adults.

🕛 Running daily from 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Whether you’re planning your day ahead or just looking for something fun to jump into between sets, these quick, casual contests are open to anyone who wants to participate. Just stop by when a round is forming and give it a try.

💲 Entry: $2.00 per person, per round, per contest
🏆 Winners receive half of the entry fees collected for their round

How It Works:

⭕ Last One Spinning

Stay in the game by keeping your hoop spinning the longest—last person standing wins!

⭕ Hoop Jump Rope

Use your hoop like a jump rope and compete for steady rhythm and total jumps.

⭕ Rolling Races

Guide your hoop across the ground using only one hand and race to the finish line.

Each round includes 2–6 players, so there are plenty of chances to join in throughout the day.

Beyond the competition, this is also a great way for kids to burn off some energy during the day—helping them wind down later in the evening so families can enjoy a more relaxed night, and giving adults a little extra time to unwind.

⚠️ Play at your own risk.
